MU BRIEFS: Sanchez to transfer to LSU
BRANSON MO NEWS: Missouri softball standout Amanda Sanchez will change her Tiger stripes for the purple and gold of Louisiana State, she announced Monday on Twitter.Sanchez, Missouri’s leading hitter in a subpar 2018 season, is the school’s latest casualty of the hiring of new permanent head coach Larissa Anderson. The Tigers fired longtime head coach Ehren Earleywine prior to a 30-29 regular season that made Missouri the only Southeastern Conference team to miss out on the SEC Tournament, held in Columbia minus its host school.
Sanchez, the Tigers’ regular third baseman, will join two fellow infielders in their exodus from Missouri. Earlier in June, shortstop Braxton Burnside broke for Arkansas and first baseman Rylee Pierce announced plans to transfer to Arizona.At .374, Sanchez’s batting average led all qualified Tiger hitters, as did her .500 on-base percentage and .671 slugging percentage. Her on-base percentage ranked fourth in the SEC. Sanchez played in 56 games in 2018 and started all of them. She was named to the 2018 All-SEC Defensive Team.The redshirt junior from West Covina, California, will have one remaining season of eligibility for LSU as a graduate transfer.
