BRANSON MO NEWS: The Branson Board of Aldermen voted to amend a chapter of the Branson Municipal Code that pertains to Transportation Network Companies.

Specifically, the aldermen voted to amend a pair of sections in chapter 22 of the code that did not address licensing requirements for transportation network companies.

Statewide legislation, passed by both the Missouri House and Senate and signed by Gov. Eric Greitens, will apply license requirements on TNCs starting Aug. 28. The legislation preempts any Missouri city from establishing licensing requirements on TNCs.

The amendment exempts TNCs, such as Uber, which officially arrived in Branson on May 19, from the business license requirement until state law takes effect on Aug. 28.

“This keeps our codes in compliance with the state level,” Alderwoman Chris Bohinc said.”

“There’s no need to reinvent the wheel,” Alderman Kevin McConnell said. “Certainly our local residents and businesses would like to have an additional option — in addition to our local established options.”

The bill, which was signed by Greitens on April 24, also contains the provision that allows airport owners or operators to establish operating procedures and may charge reasonable fees for passenger drop-off and pick-up or for use of their facilities.
