ST. LOUIS • Missouri’s GOP nominee for governor is one of the most difficult-to-categorize politicians in modern memory.Eric Greitens is a Democrat turned Republican, a Rhodes scholar turned Navy SEAL, a political novice with national political connections. He’s the author of four densely philosophical books, and the star of campaign commercials in which he shoots guns and blows stuff up. He has made ethics reform a centerpiece of his campaign while collecting the single biggest dark-money donation in Missouri history.In his campaign speeches, he sounds like the social studies teacher that everyone wishes they’d had; in a secretly recorded argument with a Republican primary rival last year, he sounded almost unhinged.
In the Nov. 8 election, Eric Greitens will face Democratic Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, with whom he has almost nothing in common other than the ironic fact that they’ve both switched parties (Koster used to be a Republican).
