Joanne Shell, 81, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, surrounded by her family.
The funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may gather from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Joanne was born August 18, 1936 to Dirl F. Bagby and Birdie Geneva Elizabeth Powell in Parma where she grew up on the family farm.
On May 22, 1955, she married Harvey Dean Shell in Vinson.
Joanne always wanted to attend college and in 1971 she earned a Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
She was a world traveler who toured countless art museums and was an avid reader, pouring over books about politics, nutrition and religion.
Joanne loved the Lord with all her heart and will be remembered for her selflessness and constant kindness.
She was a homemaker and loved being surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Shell; children, Carol Harris of Branson and Charles (Wendy) Shell of Columbia; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Derek) Sparks of Branson, Phillip Harris of Branson, Mary Shell of Brooklyn, N.Y., Amelia (Perry) Salyer of Columbia and Jonathan Shell of Seoul, South Korea; brother, Jerry (Clara) Bagby of Dexter; sister, Geneva Moody of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Mike (Cathy) Bagby of Dexter, Carla Driver of Samburg, Tenn., and Mark Moody of Overland Park, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Steven Harris; and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Moody.
