Missouri football loses four players ahead of spring camp

BRANSON MO NEWS: With spring camp fast approaching, Missouri’s football roster saw four changes Monday as a team spokesperson confirmed the transfers of defensive back Jerod Alton, linebacker T.J. Warren and wideout Raymond Wingo, and the retirement of offensive lineman Pompey Coleman.The news was first reported by Gabe DeArmond of PowerMizzou.comAlton, a redshirt sophomore from Kirkwood, made nine tackles in 11 games in 2017. He spent the season primarily on special teams after redshirting in 2016. The three-star recruit chose the Tigers over offers from Iowa and Illinois, among others, in August of 2015, but failed to secure a consistent place on Missouri’s defense in his single season on the field.

Warren saw a decrease in playing time in 2017, appearing in just six games after playing in 12 during his redshirt freshman season in 2016. In two seasons, the linebacker from Conyers, Georgia, accumulated 35 total tackles and a single-career interception, which came against Connecticut on Oct. 28. In late November, Warren was arrested in Crocker for failure to pay a parking ticket.Wingo came to Missouri in 2014, turning down offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati and Illinois. After redshirting his freshman year, the redshirt senior saw his opportunities progressively dry up. He appeared in just four games in 2017 after missing a portion of fall camp. In three seasons with the Tigers, Wingo caught just nine passes for 167 yards with two receiving touchdowns.Coleman leaves the program having never played a down for Missouri. A member of the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2017, the three-star lineman from Indianapolis suffered a broken leg during his senior season of high school and missed the entire 2017 season. He has cited medical reasons for his retirement.
