Mizzou hires Hofstra’s Larissa Anderson as softball coach
BRANSON MO NEWS: COLUMBIA, MO. • The Missouri softball program has chosen a new leader. Larissa Anderson, coming off a four-year run as Hofstra’s head coach, will be formally introduced as Mizzou’s new head coach next month, the school announced Saturday. Anderson was 130-73-1 as Hofstra’s head coach with two NCAA Tournament appearances.Anderson agreed to a five-year contract with a base salary of $185,000 with a staff salary pool of $166,000 for two assistants.This will be Anderson’s first job at a major conference program. She spent 13 seasons as a Hofstra assistant coach and previously coached at LIU Post and Gannon University, where she was an All-American outfielder as a senior in 1997.
Anderson replaces Gina Fogue, who served as MU’s interim head coach during the 2018 season and led the Tigers to a 30-29 season and two wins in an NCAA regional. Fogue was named interim coach in January after MU fired longtime coach Ehren Earleywine, the winningest coach in the program’s history.Among candidates Mizzou also considered were Wisconsin coach Yvette Healy and Oklahoma assistant J.T. Gasso, a source familiar with the situation told the Post-Dispatch. “I am thrilled that we were able to recruit Larissa Anderson to Mizzou and am confident that she will build upon the great Tiger Softball tradition that has been established over the last 44 seasons in Columbia,” MU athletics director Jim Sterk said. “She is highly-respected within the coaching community, enjoys an outstanding reputation for player development and has had tremendous success at Hofstra, first as an assistant coach, and then for the last four seasons as head coach.”From the beginning of our search, our goal was to find a coach who has demonstrated success, academically and on the field, while also sharing our values to Win It Right and I …
