OTC Offering Free Job Training Through SkillUP

2/27/2017 – SPRINGFIELD & BRANSON, Mo. – OTC is helping roll out a brand new program that could help bring some brand new faces to Missouri’s workforce.“SkillUp Missouri” provides free access to job training and job placement for individuals who currently receive SNAP benefits, formally known as food stamps.”This reaches out to a group of individuals who haven’t gotten much help, as much as education and training,” says Jim Abramovitz, executive director for OTC’s Center for Workforce Development.“This will be a major benefit as far as getting them a skill or a credential,” he says.Abramovitz says some of the SkillUP programs include medical coding, hemodialysis and medical assistant training, among others. The program is only two weeks old, but it’s already seeing plenty of interest.”We’ve had a great deal of interest so far,” he says. “We now have about 36 students that are enrolled in certificate courses mainly.”Most of the courses take between three- and six-months to complete; staring pay ranges between $11 and $16 dollar per hour.”Once you get these programs completed you have to take a national certification test.
