Porter Jr.’s agent discusses signing and addresses what’s next
BRANSON MO NEWS: More than a week ago, wearing a white-and-black Missouri Tigers T-shirt, Michael Porter Jr. sat down in front of a camera and declared for the NBA Draft. The video, posted on Instagram, publicized Porter’s decision, and another Instagram post days later confirmed that he was signing with an agent. After playing in just three games for the Tigers, he left the program as a projected lottery pick. Porter signed with Priority Sports, a management firm run by Chicago-based agent Mark Bartelstein, who represents St. Louis native Bradley Beal, Taj Gibson of the Minnesota Timberwolves and others. On Tuesday, the Columbia Missourian spoke with Bartelstein about his company’s newest client:
What was Priority Sports’ reaction to signing Porter?We’re obviously really excited. He’s a special talent. He’s also just a wonderful, wonderful young man. He’s got a great family behind him. The family has a special togetherness about them. Just the way their family has been raised, there’s no question it’s all about having the proper values. So we could not be more excited about having Michael join our family.What was it like dealing with the Porter family throughout the singing process?It’s fascinating to watch how connected they are with each other. Everyone is tied into each other’s success, and they have a great built-in support system among all of the siblings. It’s obvious there is just a great deal of love and togetherness among them.What excites you about him as a client and a player?I think his potential is unlimited.
